Our house is literally "right on the beach" - closer to the water than any other house on Don Pedro. The island has an abundance of wildlife and natural beauty. There are a number of indigenous gopher tortoises, otters, bobcats, bald eagles and rabbits. There is a variety of birds including osprey, pelicans, great blue herons, frigate birds, sea gulls and owls. The beaches are well known for their abundance of sharks' teeth and shells. Also, watch for the India manatees, dolphins, giant manta rays, and blue crabs that swim right off the coast. Don Pedro Island State Park is located on the south end of the island and is accessible by walking the beach.
