NEW HOT TUB! Cozy, convenient mountain retreat between Highlands and Cashiers! | House in Highlands
3 Bedroom House in Highlands
Welcome to Raintree Retreat — a cozy mountain getaway on a peaceful acre in beautiful Highlands, North Carolina. Relax on the screened-in porch with your morning coffee, soak in the hot tub under the stars, and gather around the fire pit for s’mores in the evening. Surrounded by rhododendrons, a small pond, and the sounds of nature, this 3-bedroom, 2-bath retreat offers the perfect mix of privacy and convenience — just 8 minutes from downtown Highlands and 12 minutes from Cashiers.
**Open Common Area
Upon entering the home, you will be greeted by vaulted ceilings, beautiful hardwood floors and an open concept living space, hosting a living room, dining space and a well-appointed and updated kitchen. The living room has comfortable seating around the large stone gas fireplace, as well as the 65" flat-screen TV. The kitchen offers granite countertops and bar seating for 4, and is equipped with all you need to make a home-cooked meal. A drip coffee maker is available, as well as a Nespresso machine. We do provide a few Nespresso pods, but recommend bringing some from home if you are a Nespresso user! The dining area comfortably seats 6 and offers access to the screened-in porch.
**Bedrooms and bathrooms
Off of the kitchen, there are 2 good-sized bedrooms (1 King, 1 Queen) along with 2 full baths. The master suite bath includes a shower/tub combo, and the guest bath, that has an entrance from the 2nd bedroom as well as the hallway, includes a standing shower. On the other side of the house is a large bonus space that serves as a 3rd bedroom (1 twin over queen bunk bed, 1 twin) as well as a fun play area for kids with a cabinet full of games and puzzles.
**Outdoor Living:
Off the back of the home, an idyllic screened-in porch stretches the entire length of the house, creating the perfect space to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The porch is accessible from both the dining area and the primary bedroom, making it easy to step outside and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Gather around the large outdoor dining table for dinner, or cozy up on the cushioned seating with your favorite beverage.
Just steps from the porch, you’ll find an acre of tranquil outdoor space to explore. A stone fire pit surrounded by Adirondack chairs is the perfect spot for roasting s’mores and sharing stories under the stars. Beneath the porch, a private hot tub offers a cozy place to relax after a day of exploring—perfect for a soak while listening to the sounds of nature.
The large, moss-covered yard is dotted with native trees and rhododendrons, leaving plenty of room for children to run and play. The yard gently slopes down to a small pond, offering yet another peaceful place to pause and enjoy the quiet mountain setting.
**Driveway
Parking is a breeze at Raintree Retreat. The level driveway comfortably fits 2 cars with one in front and one directly behind it. There is also a gravel parking spot to the right as you turn in the driveway that will fit another car. A fourth car could also fit at the end of the driveway if necessary. We do not recommend parking on the road, as it is quite narrow.
**Directions to and from our house - IMPORTANT!
From Cashiers:
Raintree Lane is a sharp right turn off of 64, coming from Cashiers. If you'd rathernot take this sharp right, continue past Raintree Ln and take your next right on Cherrywood Drive. After turning onto Cherrywood, take your next right onto Raintree Lane. The road will wind a bit, and our home will be directly ahead, just past the turn off for Lazy Creek Lane.
From Highlands:
We HIGHLY recommend taking Cherrywood Drive to Raintree Lane, insteadof turning directly onto Raintree from 64. The turnoff onto Raintree from 64 is a blind curve and very dangerous! Instead, from Highlands, take a left onto Cherrywood Drive (right past the Dollar General). From here, turn right onto Raintree Lane. The road will wind a bit and our home will be directly ahead just past the turn off for Lazy Creek Lane.
From our house to Cashiers or Highlands:
To go to Cashiers or Highlands, we recommend leaving the neighborhood through Cherrywood Drive. You can turn left out of our driveway and exit onto 64 from Raintree Lane, HOWEVER, it's not always easy to see cars coming from this way, so we recommend the following:
Take a right out of our driveway, and an immediate left to stay on Raintree Lane. Raintree Lane will dead end into Cherrywood Drive. Take a left on Cherrywood, and the road will dead end onto 64. Take a right to go to Highlands, or a left to go to Cashiers.
**Other details to note:
There is a guest information notebook on the entryway table that includes guidelines for systems, appliances, and electronics in the house. It also includes some house rules and a departure checklist, which is all available virtually as well.
Please note, because there is often tight turn around time in bookings, we do charge $50 per hour as a late checkout fee. As a reminder, checkout time is 10:00 a.m.
We have a strict NO PETS and NO SMOKING policy. If either of these policies is not followed, we will charge an additional $500 fee.
