For those needing FULL air conditioning, not just a window unit in the living room, our split system cools the entire living/dining/kitchen area AND both bedrooms (individual room temp settings), eliminating hot, sleepless nights! (Most other Maui condos advertising AC have only a single window unit in the living room, leaving their bedrooms hot. So you'll definitely want to check AC details of any condos you are considering before you choose your Maui vacation lodging.)

Our uniquely situated, peaceful end unit in Kanai a Nalu's quiet northwest beachfront wing is filled with the sights, sounds, and fragrances of this sparsely developed oasis on Maui's resort coast. You'll enjoy unparalleled views of the ocean, Haleakala volcano, and Lanai, Kahoolawe, and Molokini Islands as well as the South Maui coast, watch green sea turtles swimming just off our beach. Our winter guests enjoy sighting the amazing humpback whales during their stays in Malaaea Bay, where they have their babies, from our oceanfront wall of windows and lanai! The sound of gentle waves lapping the shore will lull you to sleep after days exploring Maui or relaxing at our on-site pool or beach.
The beauty, comfort and convenience extend inside also, with soothing tropical decor, and beds so comfortable that guests tell us they want to take them home! (The luggage fees would be pretty high, though.) You can prepare anything from snacks to holiday meals in our full gourmet kitchen, and serve them up casually or in high style. Our condo in peaceful, safe, family-friendly Maalaea is best enjoyed by active retirees, small groups of mature friends, families with school-aged or older children, and parties of one or two couples. Ideal for up to four guests, including any children or infants, maximum permitted occupancy is six (cribs must be rented from a local company).
The master bedroom has spectacular ocean views on two sides, top rated memory foam bed, and en suite master bath with shower. The ocean view guest bedroom has twin memory foam beds that can convert to a king; the guest full bathroom with tub and disability height toilet is off the hallway. Both bedrooms have closets, dressers, nightstands, and their own AC, and wall-mounted smart TVs (no cable in the second bedroom). Because both large and small things matter as we rely more and more on tech, we offer free high speed wifi, free US and Canada land line, outlets with USB ports, and a printer for those working from the condo.
In the closets, you'll find beach equipment such as umbrella, chairs, cooler, etc.. Our spacious, tropically decorated living room provides abundant comfortable seating, and wall-mounted large-screen HD LCD TV with cable channels, and opens to a private, covered, oceanfront lanai with comfortable seating. Throughout the condo, you’ll find original Hawaiian art, and decorator touches. Parking for one car in our on site lot is free; cars must be registered at the desk
Our beautifully landscaped resort is lush with tropical flower gardens and fruit trees, and grassy lawns edging the first steps of Sugar Beach, although the sand is more sparse since some major storms. The resort offers a solar-heated freshwater pool, barbecues, and picnic/lounging areas, all beside the ocean. From the nearby beach park, you can walk along Maui's longest sandy stretch-- gorgeous, unspoiled Maalaea/Sugar Beach-- as it curves past Kealia Pond Wildlife (bird) Refuge down to North Kihei.
In our well sheltered part of the Pacific (tucked behind the islands of Lanai, Molokini and Kahoolawae) you can enjoy boogie boarding, snorkeling, or swimming in the warm, gentle surf breaking over the very gradually sloping ocean floor. Our resort's name, Kanai a Nalu, means "Gentle Surf" in Hawaiian. (Nonetheless, the nearby famous annual "Freight Train" wave draws surfers worldwide during its annual appearance - so you can surf here as well!) When it's time for lunch or dinner, the beautiful granite faced beachside charcoal and gas barbecues make it easy to grill up a feast, which you can take back to the condo or enjoy at the picnic tables beside the ocean.
At our condo, in Maui's most convenient resort coast location, you will be staying not only on right on the ocean, but just 15-20 minutes from Iao Valley State Park, abundant golf facilities, Maui's major airport, Costco, Target and other stores to "shop in" your "must haves", Kaanapali and Wailea, and you'll be within walking distance of the Maui Ocean Center, Maalaea Marina, the Harbor Shops, and a variety of restaurants. It takes us one and three quarters hours to drive to Haleakala summit from the condo, and a little over twenty minutes to the start of "the Road to Hana".
Maalaea lies within the driest and sunniest microclimate in Maui, yet is kept comfortable by tradewind breezes. (Our area is technically desert; in fact, you will see cacti growing on the slopes just mauka of the condo,)
If you are celebrating an important occasion, we would love to help you find ways of making your stay, from your first step inside the condo, extra special! Advance planning is needed for special touches, as things have to be ordered and shipped to Maui ahead of time, so it is great to discuss these ideas when you are making your reservation.
Just a few words about some limitations on staying with us: There are resort-wide quiet hours, indoors and out, between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m and all guests (including young children) are expected to comply. NO smoking or animals of any kind for any reason are permitted in our condo or on its lanai. Condo and lanai furniture and other items must not be repositioned unless for safety, and no condo items other those for beach use may be taken outside the condo. Large sports equipment (kiteboards, bicycles, etc.), must be stored outside, not inside, our condo or on the lanai.
We happily accept bookings through VRBO and affiliated websites and will confirm availability of dates when you inquire. After owning our condo for over 20 years we often have returning guests whose bookings in progress may not yet appear on the VRBO online calendar. We will provide a rental agreement which you will need to sign and return to us to complete your reservation.
Please see our rate calendar for nightly rates and length of stay requirements, which vary by season. Please note that it IS possible to rent the full holiday season with a minimum 16 night stay-- please ask us. Stays shorter than "required minimum" can often be accepted year 'round if we have your dates open as a short gap. Stated rates apply for up to four guests. We do have an additional folding mattress that can be placed on the second bedroom floor for a third person (best for a child). A rented crib or pack and play can be placed in the condo. Additional charges will be incurred for the full stay per each additional person, whether 0 or 100 years of age, staying in the condo for any part of the stay, The rates currently published are heavily discounted from our standard charges as we reopen to vacation rentals, and we do offer a long stay discount for 28 nights or more; other discounts may apply when full rates are re-published.. Taxes are subject to change because Maui does so often.

Because most guests book their Maui vacations many months in advance, we have learned over our many years of renting that rebooking cancelled stays is usually not possible. We therefore cannot provide refunds for cancelled or modified stays, regardless of cause, so recommend you purchase travel insurance.
For us as owners, the best part of renting out our vacation home is getting to know (through correspondence) the people who stay there when we can't be there ourselves. We've gotten to know many guests through their frequent returns over the years!
